The Santa Margarita Water District (SMWD) is encouraging its customers to continue their conservation efforts during the planned shutdown of the Diemer Water Filtration Plant scheduled January 25 through 31.
Santa Margarita Water District will rely on water stored in its local reservoirs to provide water to its customers during the seven-day shutdown. SMWD plans for and develops water infrastructure facilities to protect and enhance local water supply reliability. These facilities - like the new Upper Chiquita Reservoir and Baker Treatment Plant Project - ensure the District has substantial water reserves to meet customer demands during planned or unplanned disruptions of water deliveries.
The Diemer Filtration Plant in Yorba Linda, which is operated by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD), will shutdown to undergo a series of operational updates and improvements. The shutdown will make water conservation a priority for all south Orange County residents and businesses during the last week in January.
With the recent rain storms, all outdoor irrigation systems should be turned off. It’s an ideal time to make sure that controllers are turned off regardless of the shutdown. For additional information about the Diemer Filtration Plant shutdown, visit
